Maui Prince Hotel Makena Resort

I would like to know if anybody has stayed at the Maui Prince Hotel Makena Resort. I would also appreciate advise on restaurants and activities in the area.

it's a nice resort...very quiet and start, but on a beautiful beach...a great place to get away...

There is not much right there, although the hotel restaurants are very good...but, you are only about a 5 minute drive to Wailea, which has several good (primarily hotel) options...and about 10-15 minutes from Kehei (which has lots of lower end dining options)...

Just got back on Monday, wish I was still there.

It was perfect for us as we wanted a nice beach and less crowds. We walked through the Four Seasons, Kea Lani and Grand Wailea and all were exceptionally nice but one thing struck us at each; they were zoos. Lawn chairs five deep, wall to wall people. The Prince isn't as glitzy but it's still nice and about half the price. It is true it's at the end of the road but only about 3 minutes by car to any of the above hotels.

Restaurants we really like because of great fish were The Waterfront, Kimos and Mama's Fishhouse. All are a bit of a drive but worth it.

Get a convertible

Go on the kayak trip with Maui Eco out of La Peruse bay at 7 am. Swam with a pod (school ?) of dolphins. Great snorkeling too.

The prince has a great sandy beach and really good snorkeling right on the side. Saw Turtles, eels, evey type of fish imaginable 30 yds off the beach.

Not a great pool but awesome beach. Very low key. If you want action, go elsewhere. Great friendly people and rates. You can sit on your lanai and watch whales breech all day long.

Bob.

Bob, I agree with you. I liked staying at the Four Seasons but I liked that particular beach the BEST!!

I stayed there (with my wife in 1998).
We really liked it. I loved the fact that you could snorkel right off the beach, and there were nice beaches nearby as well. Also, it was not crowded or commercialized (like Kaanapali).

The Price restauarant was really good, as was the breakfast. The Japansese restaurant was really good as well.

There is not much activity at the hotel, and the pool is just ok, but very relaxing. The staff was very friendly and accomodating; I would call down for my car, and they would ask if I wanted the manual convertible roof open or closed. They also have a room that you can use to shower and change if you aleady checked out of your room.
