louisiana bayou

Want to drive out of new orleans and see true deep south bayou type country. What are your suggestions? Which direction should I head, towards grand isle, venice, etc.?

Is this a day trip, or do you have longer? I'd head west to Lafayette if more than a day trip.

I enjoyed Thibodeau and Bayou Lafourche.

We would have no more than a half day and do not want to do a ton of driving.

You've seen one swamp, you've seen them all.

What makes the bayou country interesting is the Cajun culture, and you won't have time to see that in half a day without driving toward the places mentioned above, but they are in the opposite direction from the rest of your trip.

Will be in New Orleans for one day. Have done the city before. Bayou/Cajun culture is what I am looking for. So I do not really need to go all the way out towards the Delta Refuge or Grand Isle areas?

Sort of on subject and off subject, but is there a specific area around New Orleans vicinity to see abundant alligators in the wild?

http://www.cajunencounters.com/ - you can take a tour of the swamps 30 minutes away from New Orleans.

If you only have half a day this is your best option. You will see tons of alligators. I brought my brother when he came to visit and a giant hog came up to the boat and ate a sandwich out of the guides hand. So, it is entertaining and you will get your bayou fix.

Thanks for that tour info. Would a 1 year old be okay on that tour?

Our 1 year old is good most places as long as he has stuff to look at and listen too. He is a people watcher and loves the outdoors.
