Looking for budget hostel&transportation in DC/NYC/BOS
Hi,
My plan is to stay for two days in DC next two days in NYC and one day in BOS. I also consider staying third night in NYC and going to BOS in the morning. Yet, I've found very good website
http://www.gotobus.com
about transportation options but I'm still looking for reasonable cheap accomodation. Hostel or cheap (40 to 60 per night) motel will be nice but I'm with 50 lbs bag so nearby metro station would be appreciated.
I'm gonna sightsee monuments, museums and etc. so wasting 50 min. to get to downtown is not an option. Can you recommend me something ?
BTW: I'll come to Washington at 8 pm (from Greenbelt station) so I'm looking for hostel/motel that is not on the other side of the city.
Any help will be appreciated

To the best of my knowledge, there is no real hotel or motel in NYC for the price you're looking to pay---not even in NJ or Queens. If you are traveling alone, then you might look at a hostel room at the Gershwin Hotel, which meets your budget, but I (and most of the posters here) are just not going to be up on the hostel scene. Try Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree.
If you are looking for very cheap bus transportation between the 3 cities, Greyhound is the main company, and you don't need to book your seat in advance; buy tickets yourself at the bus station in DC. A cheaper option is sometimes the unregulated Chinatown buses, and they serve all 3 cities at very cheap (like $25) prices, but you need to do an Internet search to find out about them. They have wildly varying safety records (one recently crashed between Boston and NYC).
I'm afraid I know absolutely nothing about hostel options in either DC or Boston.

The problem with hostels is that many are not going to have a secure place for you to put all your stuff.
Many hostels have lockers (there's one on 103rd & Amsterdam in NYC that many european students like; $35 per night for a bed in a shared room). But - most have only small lockers for your stuff - don;t know where you'll be able to store that much.
Agree to try Thorn Tree - but be sure to contact the hostel to see if they have anyplace secure for your stuff.
And no - there are no hotels for $40 to $60 per night - esp in NYC. ($40 per night in NYC will get you a parking spot in a garage - not a room.)

One website for your needs in all three cities:
http://www.hiayh.org
I've been in the facilities in all three, have stayed in the NYC one several times, my niece & her family have stayed in Boston's. Have a lock (maybe a few) for the lockers. I think they can accomodate all the stuff you're bringing.
