Lodgings close to Tanglewood except Lenox

My wife and I have tickets for Sat and Sun 8/2 and 8/3. We hoped to stay in Lenox for a week if we could find a simple affordable in-town studio or apartment. They are all gone! Well the ones that we could afford are long gone.

We are asking for help with finding a PLAN B:

Can anyone recommend another town that might be both affordable and within easy driving range of Lenox? A nice hotel or an Inn would be fine - even for 3-4 nights.
We'd also like to spend a day on Mon or Tues in the Williamstown area. So, a place within 1/2 hour of Lenox/Williamstown would be ideal.

We might wish to hike the Appalachian trail for a day if it runs thru our intended target area.
Thank you

Joe and Diane

Friends used to stay at the Manor House in Norfolk, Ct. for Tanglewood visits, but it's under new ownership now. Not sure if it's what you would call affordable, but there one good review here

It's a pretty area though.

There are loads of places in Great Barrington, Ma that would be another option.

I agree with Great Barrington, there seem to be the most hotels/motels/B&Bs in that area..

I've learned to book accomodations at the same time I purchase tickets...

One of our favorite places to stay is the 1896 House just south of Williamstown. Rooms are country inn/B&B, but with more privacy, more reasonable rates, and beautiful grounds.

There are many chains represented in Pittsfield.

And, the Holiday Inn Berkshires in North Adams was just fine when I waited too long to book once. There are some magnificent restaurants in North Adams.

You might also want to try calling the Berkshires Visitors' Bureau
800-237-5747. They are very knowledgeable and helpful and will have recommendations you probably would never find online.

Also, take a look at the Jericho Valley Inn. There are some not so great reviews on TripAdvisor, but we loved the place. Reasonable rates. Accomodations include rooms with kitchens and cottages. The address is Williamstown, but it's located just west of New Ashford, which puts you closer to Lenox. According to their website, there is availability for your dates.
