Lobster, Lobster & more Lobster

Did a quick trip to Maine and wanted to share some of the places where we enjoyed lobster.
Best of all – Waterman’s (off of Route 73) in S. Thomaston. We had a great lobster and lobster roll. The raspberry pie was to die for.
2nd - Reds in Wiscassett – Always love their lobster rolls. I know many think they are over rated these days, but every year I think they have one of the best lobster rolls around
3rd – tie between Five Island Lobster and Kelly’s which is a trailer on Five Island. Their lobster roll was equal to Five Island’s and a few bucks cheaper. They also had a great crab roll.
4th - Holbrooks in Cundy Point. We were headed to Morse's in Harpswell and happen to stop at a wine store where we found out Morse is not open this year. Instead they are operating Holbrooks.
5th – Lobster Shack on Cape Elizabeth outside of Portland
6th– Lobster Co in Portland
And not worth a trip – Sarah’s of Wiscasset just opened in Georgetown. Definitely not a traditional lobster roll…tons of mayonnaise, celery, mostly very finely chopped meat from the fin and worst of all on a hoagie or submarine roll not even toasted.
Certainly not in the same category of the places above, was a braised lobster at Fore Street in Portland.
Also if you’re in the Five Island area and appreciate a good old fashioned bakery, check out Mane Street on route 127—fabulous!

Sounds exactly like our kind of trip to Maine but I would have gotten rhubarb pie at Waterman's. We'll have to check out Holbrooks. Liked the Harpswell area very much but we had lobster rolls at Estes.

I remember a few years ago, the inmates at a prison in Maine had a mini riot because they were tired of eating lobster all the time. Imagine?

dfrostnh, we've spent time in Harpswell before and love it. Always looking for a nice place to stay in that area.
waldo, No I cant imagine. I could eat lobster forever it seems. I bet it was many years ago that they served lobster in the Prisons, given its current price. Lobster rolls were around $15..not cheap

I have a friend who grew up on Cape Breton Island. She says that they were so poor that they had to take lobster sandwiches to school - because thats all they had and the fishermen just hauled home sacks of them

wouldnt that be a terrible way to grow up?

I'm so jealous! I LOVE lobster and have recently developed an allergy to shellfish. I guess I'll just have to read about your experiences.
