last minute Tahoe girls weekend, need help!

Hi! Looking to plan a last minute trip to Tahoe for this weekend (Dec 2nd/3rd for 3 days). We were hoping to ski/snowboard but doesn't seem to be much snow. This is a first time trip so don't really know where to begin. Where to stay (all late 20s), what to do other than ski if not able, good hiking still?, what ski areas are open now?

Looking for a hotel/cabin under $200/night. Would love something with spa/hot tub to just relax and have a good girls weekend! Any input appreciated. Thinking of Squaw, Heavenly, Northstar areas, hadn't really heard of any others yet....Thanks!!!

I heard Heavenly is open and also Northstar, probably others. You should check out the web sites for current information.

Check out this place near Heavenly:

I haven't personally stayed here, but a good friend of mine really likes staying here when he skies Heavenly.

Oh my goodness there is a bunch of snow now! DS and friend went snowboarding this past weekend at Boreal and there was a bit more than I expected. It's been snowing since Sunday. Here are links to a bunch of web cams:

Squaw Valley right next to the gondola is Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn. Great little place:

Suzie is correct. The snow level has got down to 5,000 feet I think over the past few days. So it should be great skiing this weekend.

Great, can't wait! Thinking maybe the Hyatt on Incline or Squaw Valley resort. Any thoughts or somewhere equally nice that might be a little cheaper? Don't want anything too cheesy or touristy, just a place to relax!

We stay at the Hyatt. Did you look for their special ski package or AAA rate on their web site? I know your $200 budget will be hard to find a room at a resort that you are looking for. Free shuttle to Diamond Peak a mile or so up the road in Incline.

Based on the daily review of snow status at our house I would stay at south shore and go boarding at Heavenly. Best conditions so far. We've stayed at the Marriott Grand, great and next to the gondola or the Marriott Timber Lodge. Embassy Suites is great too.

Geez Diamond Peak isn't even opened and is not scheduled to be open until mid December!! That shuttle from the Hyatt isn't very vvaluable this weekend.

If you want to stay at the Hyatt then you'll need to travel to Northstar for close boarding or skiing.

Squaw opens tomorrow. You can try Squaw Valley Inn. Right next tot eh Squaw Valley Tram.

The Forest Suites one is at the Heavenly Gondola, I think in your price range (has a variety of suite sizes) and is AAA 3 diamond rated.

trippinkpj - I've never stayed at the Forest Suites but I see it across the street from the village area every time. I don't pay much attention to the places on that side of the street. Is there anything you can tell me about the Forest Suites? The stuff on the web site looks decent. We're looking for something around the middle of next month and I'm willing consider new places. Thanks!

As I said in my earlier post, I haven't stayed there yet (we may in Feb.). But one of my good friend's and his wife stay there a lot when they ski Heavenly. He says it's an easy walk to the casino's.

Sorry Suzie, I didn't think to look myself to see if Diamond Peak was open. I thought the OP looked at a Lake Tahoe link to see what was up and running this week, and mentioned Hyatt because it was where she wanted to stay and was close to skiing.
