Las Vegas to Lake Powell to Pheonix
Thanks for advice in advance for my family trip in July. We are 2 adults and 4 kids 10 yo and under. All of us are mobile and like hiking, but not huge distances given little legs. We are not camping, so need hotel accomodations
I am looking for advice on best route/places to stop/stay and things to do with the kids.
We leave LV and drive to Lake Powell in a day. Hoping to be in LP in the early afternoon, so only really looking at recommended 3 hr max stop. Lake Powell we have rented a houseboat, so all set.
Lake Powell to Pheonix- We have 4 days to make the drive. I was thinking about a stop at GC, Flagsaff and 2 days in Pheonix but hard to tell what we are missing.
Appreciate any tips

My suggestion:

Old town Flagstaff is quaint with several microbreweries.
Coupled with their pizza, we frequent Beaver Street Brew (BSB) at 11 Beaver St. http://www.beaverstreetbrewery.com/
Evening entertainment at this very, very historic club (C/W type) http://www.themuseumclub.com/
Its history: http://www.legendsofamerica.com/az-museumclub.html
While scenic, I am not a Sedona promoter primarily because of their overall prices and high city sales tax.
Arizona State 5.600%
Yavapai County 0.750%
>>> Sedona 3.000% >>> Add a bed tax of 3.5%

Between Las Vegas and Lake Powell, you could look into a stop at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Zion is nice but you won't get much done there if you are trying to limit your stop to 3 hours or less. Parking and riding the shuttle will take up the majority of your time there. I'd say skip it if you can't allot more time.
After Lake Powell, enter the Grand Canyon via the East Entrance and spend the night inside the park at one of the lodges.

If you can't get a reservation online, call their reservation number every day (or several times a day) and eventually you will get something. The best backup plan is to book something in Tusayan, which is the closest lodging outside the park.
I kind of doubt OP will go to bars/clubs in Flagstaff with 4 small children.
I would recommend the Lowell Observatory instead.

I would choose a couple days in Sedona over Phoenix because of the heat in July. Take the kids to Slide Rock State Park near Sedona. There's also a wild animal safari park on the way back to Phoenix - I was not real impressed with it but it may have improved since I've been there.

If you do go to Phoenix instead of Sedona, do your outdoor activities early in the day or in the late evening. Mid-day will be blazing hot.
