Kids in Vegas

Fodor's first pick for places to stay in Vegas with kids is The Orleans. Read through all the existing messages, saw mostly Flamingo, Mandalay Bay & Treasure Island. Anyone know anything about The Orleans?

Off-Strip property, not very big, but its reputation is really good (known for big, comfy rooms). I've never stayed there (driven by), but you might check out the review at cheapovegas.com-- that's a great source for no-fluff (if irreverent) info on Vegas resorts.

We went to the Orleans to see a show. It was too far from the Strip and everything was sort of tired and bare looking, like an old stinky (waay too smokey) hotel from the past.
I have no idea why they would recommend it for kids, but I would really recommend staying on the Strip. If you are taking children, Manadaly Bay is very nice.

Correction! The Orleans wasn't Fodors pick for where to stay with kids. That came off of a general search of kid friendly hotels in Vegas. Thanks for all the input. Looks like Mandalay Bay is a winner.

Orleans is an outstanding choice for kids.....if they're big smokers. That place stinks from stale, smokey air, much like the old Vegas casinos.

We stayed at the Mirage (next to TI and across from Flamingo) with our kids and it was fine. I thing TI and Flamingo would also be fine. I think much has to do with the pool area and possibly attraction in or near the hotel. Mandalay has a great pool area, probably the best for kids (wave pool, etc.) but it is at the far end of the strip. TI has the evening pirate show, Mirage has the volcano and the Tiger/Dolphon habitat. Mandalay has a shark acquarium. All are worth visiting.

I have never stayed at The Orleans. However, when my family travels, we usually stay in one of the "true" suits hotels off the strip, e.g. Hawthorne Suits, Candlewood Suites.

These two properties are non-gambling, breakfast is included, and it is nice to have a separate bedroom.

We stayed @ the MGM Grand (Tower) in 2000 and our 7 year old son loved the lazy river and pool area. This year we're going to Yellowstone, but he still want to go back to the MGM! We all had a great trip. Vegas and the surrounding area have a lot to offer.
