There's a restaurant IN Longwood Gardens, since you'll be there that day anyway. I think I've heard it's pretty decent.

Some thoughts that come to mind. Buckley's tavern in Centerville,a colonial tavern style place (not sure how far exactly maybe 15 minutes? or Sullivan's steakhouse on 202 (probably 10-15 minutes away. I work but in delaware with some folks who live in the area so I will see if anyone has other ideas.

Try the Brandywine room at the Hotel Dupont in Wilmington. It's only about a 20-30 minute ride and well worth it.

Not sure if these are open on x-mas but they'd be nice:
Mendenhall Inn
Krazy Kat's (sounds casual but is very upscale)
Columbus Inn

Also Try the Gables in Chadds Ford or the Towne House in Media and Concordville Inn (I would go to the Towne House as a last resort)

My little bride and I were married at Mendenhall Inn and love the place . . you will need reservations.

Buckleys ( on Rt 52 which intersects with Rt 1, which is where Longwood is )is also a nice place . . reservations for Christmas may be too late.

Cromwells Tavern is also on 52 but in Greenville DE. About 15 miles from Longwood.

Enjoy . . Rich

According to their website they are open on Christmas Day from 9:00AM 'til 9:00PM. The fountain displays set to music play every half hour from 11:00AM 'til 4:30PM and there are organ sing-a-longs from 1:30PM 'til 8:00PM. The 420,000 outdoor lights go on at 5:00PM 'til closing.

The Chadds Ford Inn would be a beautiful place to have Christmas Dinner.
