kalalau trail transportation
We are hiking the kalalau trail in 3 days. It looks like the choices for getting to Ke'e beach from Lihue airport are: 1. renting a car and leaving it at the trailhead for 5 days 2.A $120 taxi ride each way. or 3. Hitchhiking. The bus does not go to the airport and will not allow big backpacks or those with external frames. Does anyone have a better alternative?

#1 -- not a good idea due to our local idiot vandals who will break into that car, in such of anything they can take.
#2 -- yikes, pricey!
#3 -- hitch hiking is illegal in Hawai`i (although I've never personally seen anyone get arrested for it).
Another option is to quickly befriend someone on your flight (or in the baggage claim area at Lihu`e) and solicit a ride.
Best of luck!
