Like all of New England you can be hit by rain shower/thunderstorms on very short notice. Generally I'd say late June is beautiful, temps near 80, starting to get humid but not unbearable. Mosquitoes/flys can be a problem at this time of year depending on the spring rain/standing water situation and whether you're at the coast or near the lakes.

We've had wonderful trips to Maine in June. I like to go when the lupines are blooming in the Searsport/Blue Hill peninsula area. We did get some rain so I would agree that June can be iffy. It's still cold out on the water. We took a boat ride and the crew handed out blankets. It seems in New England that we usually have a hot spell in June, too. You might get lucky. It's still kind of quiet in June. We usually figure rates go up beginning July 4th weekend.

June is definitely black fly season, but if you are on the coast they aren't so bad. The end of June can be an absolutely gorgeous time or it can be cold, foggy and/or rainy. Of course the same can be said for the rest of the summer ! if you are heading through Blue Hill, stop at the Fish Net for lobster rolls and onion rings. The lobster rolls are some of the best anywhere, and the onion rings anywhere around there are quite different from what you get in most of the rest of the country.

How far up the coast are you planning to go? There's quite a difference between Kennebunkport and Bar Harbor. The only thing you can pretty much count on is that it won't be hot and it won't snow. Otherwise, you're apt to see every other kind of weather that time of year. We have a bike and usually take the week before the 4th off. Since we live here, we head inland then and save the coast for July - September. The coast is beautiful and you'll have a great trip. Just pack layers. You'll start out the day with jackets and sweatshirts, then hopefully you'll peel those off as the day warms up. It's good that you're going before the 4th when things get busy and prices go up.

I agree 100% with pegoode.
June weather in southern Maine is usually pretty mild (usualy the spring rains are gone by then and the foliage/flowers are in full bloom)- I usually save my N. Maine trips to the Bar harbor area for July and August - if you do go up that far, bundle up on your bike - it's worth the trip - it's beautiful country.

June is a perfect time to go to Maine as all the shops/resturants are in full swing and the crowds aren't too bad - yet.
Enjoy!
