JFK vs LaGuardia Airport for Long Island?
Hi,
Which airport is better -- JFK vs LaGuardia when traveling to South Shore of Long Island? How is traffic going in and out of airport toward Long Island direction? Read that LGA is quite old and prone to delays? Which one is easier to deal with when travel?
Also, is it convenient to take a train from JFK to Sayville, NY (Long Island)? Does it leave directly from the terminal or I have to go outside?
Reason for LGA is that I'm thinking of checking out a famous Shanghai dumpling restaurant in Flushing before heading to airport. Not sure it's worth the detour and hassle though.
Thanks!

If you are going to take the LIRR you are better off landing at JFK. And no there are no LIRR does not go to either airport. But JFK has the Air Train which will take you to Jamaica - where there is a major LIRR station.
The trip from Jamaica to Sayville will take about an hour but service is intermittent - from every 30 minutes to once an hour.
From LGA to the LIRR is a PIA - with a taxi probably the best way to do it. (While the LIRR does go to Flushing it's a different line than the Jamaica one and would require backtracking - or a taxi from Flushing to Jamaica.)

It's true that Islip is fairly close to Sayville. But they are on different lines of the LIRR and the OP would either need to rent a car to get around or do some fancy dancing to and fro to get from the line with Sayville to that for Ronkonkoma.
Depends on if they will be visiting friends with a car or ?????

Thanks, all, for your responses. Yes, I know about Islip, but couldn't get any convenient ticket via Islip, and it's a lot more expensive too.
Plan is to fly into JFK and take train to LI. Fly out LGA, where someone can drop me off.
Thanks!
