Is valet parking free in Las Vegas

We are going to rent a car in Las Vegas. Is valet parking free at Bellagio, Mirage and other casinos? Is this correct that I have to tip $1 but only when I get my car?
Thanks.

Yes, it is free. I used to tip $1, but now I tip $2 if service is swift--which it often is. Free valet parking is a great service because walks to parking garages are often exceedingly long.

When this question came up a few months ago somebody claimed giving $5 when dropping a car off and $5 when picking it up.

Parking is free in most hotels. If you have a valet park your car, you should tip. I tip at least $2 these days. I know some people tip when they drop off or pick up their cars, but I only tip when I get it from the valet.

If you don't want to tip, you can park the car in the garage yourself.

Valet parking works as follows:
You drive up to the entrance of the building, leave your keys in the car (leave it running), get out of your car, the attendant will give you a claim check and then he'll drive the car away. When you are ready to leave simply go back to where you dropped off the car, give the attendant the claim check, he/she will retrieve the car and bring it to you, the attendant will hold the door open for you, at this point thank the attendant and give him/her the appropriate tip.

Often, i forget what exit to take from the inside of the hotel or casino, but most Vegas hotels have pretty good signs pointing to hte valet station. Some of them have an office with a window where you hand over your ticket. They"ll call for your car, and point out the place where you should sit and wait.
