Is there a train from SAN (airport) to Encinitas?

Thinking of a day trip in Sept to go to Wavecrest (Woodies show) and would rather not rent a car if possible. Thanks.

The trains run only from the downtown Depot, not the airport.

Either the Coaster or Amtrak.

You'd have to get a cab from the airport to the Santa Fe Depot. The Coaster runs from there to Oceanside. The Woodie event is at Moonlight Beach and I don't know if the station is walking distance or if you'd need to Uber/Lyft over.

According to Google maps, it's only half a mile and should take 8 minutes to walk!

Actually, you can take a bus from the airport to the downtown depot.

If you are going to have to hire Ubers and cabs it might be less expensive to do a car hire.

The trouble with a car would be parking it at the beach in Encinitas. Taking public transportation would solve that fairly big problem.

Thx. Might look into supershuttle or something similar.. would like to avoid having to screw around looking for parking. Have been to the woodies once before and parking was difficult.

If you want to do the bus/train combo it's an MTS Bus 992 and takes about 30 minutes from the airport..plus your extra wait time for the bus and the train, over an hour total.

It takes 23 minutes, and that includes walking to the bus stop and to the Depot. The actual bus ride is 14 minutes. I can't believe Uber would cost very much and they pick up at designated spots at both terminals.

In my experience taking the train here in SD is very expensive. I would compare prices for the Coaster or Amtrack and then check to see how much a shuttle would cost to go directly there.

I'm guessing nanabee has only been on an Amtrak and not much experience with NCTD.

A Region Plus Day pass is $12 plus $2 for the Compass Card (if you decide to use the MTS bus to get to the downtown depot)

R/T for the Coaster train is $11 and half off for 60+.
If you are going only to Encinitas or Solana Beach the Coaster fares and passes are accepted on Amtrak for their trains that stop in Encinitas.

There's a master schedule here (extends beyond into LA but has all the Weekend trains for Encinitas) so you can decide if that works for you.

Is that very expensive? Because if so, then won't want a $45 OW trip on a Supershuttle.
