Infant in NYC end of January
I need to be in NYC at the end of January for 5 days. My 6-month old son will be traveling with me. NYC moms, what is the best way to get around the city and keep him warm? I have baby bjorn, lightweight car seat/stroller combo, snowsuit, puff jacket, mittens, wearable blankets, hats with earflaps, mittens, one of those really thick "prams" sort of like a cute snowsuit.....
I'm more afraid he will roast if I overbundle him! Oh and I have all this stuff because he sometimes goes to the Tahoe ski lodge with us (we are snowboarders, but live down the mountain in a nice warm climate).
And I see people generally just say "leave baby at home". Do all NYC babies stay indoors all winter???

Bundle them up outside (depending on conditions) and be able to take off the layers once inside.
Just don't stay out in the cold too long at one stretch without stops inside to let his face warm up.
Otherwise, it sounds like you have the right gear for him.

No - NYC babies don;t stay indoors in the winter. They go out dressed in about 6 layers of clothes when it's cold.
And yes, you have to take them mostly off as soon as you go back indoors. so parents try to do as few ins/outs as possible. (There are now 2 toddlers in my building and they do a lot of playing in the hallways with the nannies - even though thte park is only a half block away. Typically they go to the park once day - unless the weather is truly horrendous - and play inside the rest of the time.
As for strollers - fine if you're out of midtown and there's no ice or slush. And OK if they fold into a cab trunk or for getting on the bus. To use the subway you have to carry the stroller/baby up and down several flights of stairs - and getting on a train at rush hour won't happen.
Also - walking in midtown with a stroller at busy times is a bad idea, since people aren't expecting strollers and sometimes trip on them.

Most use a lightweight collapsible stroller with the suit that goes over it. Some also use the plastic cover to keep out rain or snow. For walking around that's best. For getting around, bus or taxi is easier than the stairs on the subway. One thing I'd strongly suggest is staying in a suite hotel with separate bedroom and living room for naps etc. and try to avoid staying in Times Square.
We are having a really brutal winter this year (along with the rest of the country). Right now it's snowing to beat the band and 17 degrees but feels like 5 with wind chill!
