Ideas for fly fishing locale (& self-catering lodging) in SW Fla. in Nov.
We'll be in Fla. in Nov., and my husband is a fly fisherman, so we're looking for places he could conveniently fish. We'll be bringing our kayaks, so he could use that for a boat or possibly do a motorized boat rental for a couple days. Wading is also fine.
We prefer the old Fla. idea and aren't looking for glitz, high rises, upscale amenities, fancy eating spots etc. We are more nature lovers who also plan to do kayaking and biking and exploring. A small old-fashioned resort is fine as long as the location is good. We are also open to house rentals. We'd even be up to a couple days of camping if the location is exactly what we are looking for.
Got any ideas for me on the Gulf side? Thanks much.

Two good suggestions.
Pine Island is incredibly low key. No beaches, though it is a a fishing Mecca.
Islamorada is the fishing capital of the Keys and a great place to begin.
Does he have salt water fly tackle?

Most of my saltwater fishing in Florida has been done in Sarasota, which I think is not what you're looking for. However, many of the guides there arrange charters in Port Charlotte, a little further south, and that might be the ticket. The fly fishing in these areas is generally for snook and redfish.

Matlacha. There is a cute little shack type hotel where you
can throw a line out your window and maybe catch a snook.
Down and dirty Berts Bar is just a few feet away. Matlacha is a cute little drinking village with a fishing problem...or so the t-shirts say.
