Ice Skating Holiday

Can anyone suggest a place to stay in December in Vermont for a family weekend getaway. We don't ski but we do ice skate! Thanks!

The Nevele Resort in Ellenville, NY....the Catskills has a huge beautiful outdoor ice rink with a professional, skates and a lodge with a great fireplace. Also a ski lift and tubing. Also a great indoor swimming pool.

The Gristmill Restaurant on the Killington access road has a catfish/duck pond that they use for ice-skaing during the winter. If you're into the ski scene, you might enjoy the Killington Ski area. Also consider nearby Woodstock - much nicer IMO, and within a drive of Killington - run a search, should pull up good info. there are ponds nearby, not sure if they're skatable.

I'm losing it - you clearly said that you do not ski - scrap basing yourself in Killington! Still, the Gristmill is a fairly short drive from Woodstock - lovely New England village.

Wherever you decide to go, it may be a good idea to call a few days in advance to find out if the ice is thick enough to skate on. For example, last winter, ice skating in most places was not safe until well after Christmas.

I know it isn't Vermont but Ottawa has the world's longest skating rink in the middle of the city. As well, your American dollars would go a long way in Canada. You could stay at the Chateau Laurier, one of the top hotels in North America, and be close enough to walk to the Canal.

An alternative to VT would be in Jackson NH -
The Nestlenook farm & related properties (Nordic Village, Victorian Village, Nordic Wilderness) Offer unlimited Ice skating (Very beautiful surroundings) Go to www.luxurymountaingetaways.com for more info.
They also offer Snowshoeing, sleigh rides on the property (Pleanty to do for non-skiers)
