How to get from DCA (Reagan) to Dulles (IAD)
How do I get from DCA airport to IAD airport to make a connection? Would like to take bus or train. How long will it take? What would be the approximate costs? Would a taxi ride be most expensive? Thanks

From DCA to Dulles, you can get there by two Metro trains and bus, or a taxi. For the Metro, you can walk directly from the terminal to the Metro station (Yellow/Blue lines) and board a Blue Line train heading north to Rosslyn. Transfer at Rosslyn to the Orange Line west west toward Vienna. At the West Falls Church (WFC) station, you can transfer to a Dulles shuttle bus (comes every 20-30 minutes).
Metro fares will be $2.50 to $4.50 depending on the time of day. See http://www.wmata.com/riding/visitors/airports.cfm for information on fares and schedules.
The bus shuttle from WFC station to Dulles Airport runs every 20-30 minutes and is about $10. See http://www.washfly.com/flyer_bus_schedule.htm for a schedule. My guess is total riding time will be at least 1 hour, depending on transfer times and traffic.
A taxi will the easiest way to get from DCA to Dulles, but it will be more expensive ($60-70). I would take a taxi if you're transferring during the weekend, or during off-peak hours when the Metro service are less frequent, or if you have heavy luggage, which is cumbersome to transport on Metro trains.

Another less expensive alternative is to take the Blue line metro from DCA to Rosslyn Metro Station. Transfer to the Metrobus 5a ($3.20)to IAD. U can look at routes and times at
