Getting from Tyson's Corner to Georgetown?
Will be staying at the Sheraton Premiere in Tyson's Corner on business this fall. We would like to go to Georgetown one night to walk around and have dinner. What is the best way to get there. Is there a Metro stop near our hotel? Is a shared taxi a better way to go? We won't have a car but can use the hotel shuttle to take us to a Metro stop if it is within a few miles of the hotel.

The Dunn Loring Metro station is about 3.5 miles from your hotel. Ask your hotel about shuttle.
Dunn Loring is the 2nd to last stop on the orange line. It's 8 stops to GWU/Foggy Bottom, and then either walk or take a bus to G'town. G'town has no direct Metro service.
Tyson's Corner (and most of Fairfax County) is really a auto-centric place. Hard to get around without a car there.

The closest Metro stop to your hotel would be Dunn Loring on the orange line, which is about 5 miles away--a 10-15 minute drive (significantly longer at rush hour). Many hotels in this area do offer shuttle service to the Metro, but not all.
When Metro was first designed, residents of Georgetown lobbied heavily *against* a Metro station in their neighborhoods, so as a result the closest you can get to Georgetown via Metro is Foggy Bottom. You will need to walk a number of blocks to get from the Metro station to Georgetown proper. It's certainly do-able if the weather is pleasant and you're in decent shape, but you'll have to decide what you're up for.
All in all, it might be easier to take a cab. Cab fare from the city to Tyson's Corner generally runs me about $25-30 (for one person).

If you decide to take Metro, get a transfer ticket from the dispenser at Dunn-loring near the excalators.
Take the Orange Line to Rosslyn, and you can use the transfer tickets to ride the Georgetown Shuttle for 35 cents (or 25??) or could even walk. BTW, can also get on Georgetown Shuttle at Foggy Bottom too.

I stayed at the Sheraton Premiere last Friday night and noticed the shuttle info. They have a shuttle to the Metro on Saturdays and Sundays. On weekdays, the shuttle goes to businesses in the T.C. area.
The Tysons Westpark Transit station is maybe a mile from the hotel (and a block away from where I just moved out of). You could walk there, it would be across busy route 7 (at a stoplight), up Tyco Road. From there, Metrobus 5A goes to Rosslyn metro station and Fairfax Connector buses 425 and 427 go to West Falls Church metro. From Rosslyn, you could walk across Key Bridge to Georgetown or take a taxi.
There are Enterprise car rental offices very nearby (Springhill Road and Rt 7, among other locations within about 1 mile.
The BEST way to get to Gtown from there would be in a taxi.
