How Much Time?

We are planning a trip to South Dakota, and Yellowstone in early September. How much tiime will we need to do Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park? I'm not really into caves so I think I will skip those. We are into scenery and hiking. We thought we would stay at Rapid City. Is that a good choice? We like B&B's. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Have not been there yet myself but will be in two weeks. Mt Rushmore can be viewed in a short or longer period of time...your choice. My recommendation is to also go to Crazy Horse..It's on your way to Custer State Park. We plan on taking the day to see these two monuments and then being in Custer for that evening and the next. We have reservations at the State Game Lodge 1-800-658-3530 if interested, It was the summer White House of two presidents. They also have other facilities. They offer a chuck wagon cookout you might be interested in. The dining room offers wild game. The Needles Hgwy and Iron Mountain into and out of the park are supposed to be good drives for scenery.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I will certainly check out the State Game Lodge. The chuck wagon cookout sounds great. I'm hungry already! The scenic drives sound wonderful.

Don't know how old you are or if you're interested in Wild Bill Hickcock and Clamity Jane but their graves are in Deadwood SD. That is not far from Mt Rushmore. We are spending a night there. It is a town full of casino's but that is kind of appropriate as Wild Bill played poker and was playing poker the night he was killed. He and Clamity Jane were in love, never married, but had a child together.

Thanks again for more great ideas. I love old cemeteries. I think we will plan on going to Deadwood. I'm not into casino's but I understand it is an interesting town. Thanks so much!
