Define "good value" in terms of dollars.
in the meantime look at the Miami International Airport Hotel (www.miahotel.com)- it's right inside the airport opposite the TSA Checkpoint for Terminal E.
If that doesn't meet your needs you should know that just about every major hotel chain has a location within a few miles of the airport (most offering free shuttle service). Check out: Hilton, Embassy Suites, Sheraton, Hampton Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn, Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Comfort Inn, La Quinta, DoubleTree, Days Inn, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Crown Plaza, to name a few.

"Okay" is praise here.
Our experience at the Holiday Inn was truly dreadful, though manatees were swimming in a trash-filled drainage canal outside our window and planes flew very close to the breakfast room at the top of the tower.
This is a fairly scary area of town, and I wouldn't even think of staying overnight here unless I had a very late arrival or a very early departure, and then I would stay somewhere I could walk to without leaving the airport itself.

Agree with above - that area of town is really scary. We had a very early flight a couple of years ago and were driving down from Ft Lauderdale. The bars were letting out at around 4 AM when we arrived, we got a little lost trying to drop off rental car - I have rarely been so scared driving thru an area.

gail, fortunately Miami Airport now has the major rental car agencies onsite in at attached garage. I agree, picking up or returning a rental car in that area could be pretty frightening.
I wouldn't suggest that anyone staying at an airport area hotel in Miami go out and roam at night. But plenty of them are just fine if you plan to stay in. My usual favorite is Hyatt Place just west of the airport. But it's really all a matter of price for your dates and personal taste or preference.
