Hike on Haleakala (Maui) -- Poli Poli (or something like that)

My mom sent me an email a while ago, mentioning she'd heard this hike was excellent (like hiking through an enchanted forest) but I can't remember what it's called and she's in Hawaii herself right now!

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Can you give me any info on it?

Pipiwai Trail -- a 2.2 mile (one-way) trail through bamboo forest up to 400ft Waimoku Falls. It's a fabulous hike.

It's at the eastern tip of Haleakala Nat'l Park, several miles SE of Hana; just above the seven sacred pools.

The following is a web site with more detail:

There are many trails through Poli Poli. Poli Poli Springs is upcountry, at Kula. DH goes mountain biking up a few times a month, and somethimes I have go up with him and hike. There are redwoods and you are right at the cloud line, so. yes, it is like an enchanted forest. I don't have any links offhand to recommend, but if you do a search for Poli Poli Springs you will will find a lot of information. I know there is at least one website with comprehensive trail maps of Poli Poli.

Oops...thanks for correcting me htg2maui!

I recall wanting to hike the trails up in the Polipoli Springs State Rec Area when I last visited. But after making it up on the twisty Waipoli Road (or at least I think that's the name), I didn't feel our rental sedan could handle the rugged dirt roads up at the top. I knew there was a reason why I tell myself to rent a 4x4 the next time I go to Maui.
