Hermann, MO
We have to go to a wedding in Hermann, MO in September and are looking for a nice place to stay. The Hermann Hill Vineyard & Inn is out because the bride has requested that none of her family or the groom's family stay there since they are staying there. Does anyone have any recommendations - it is so hard to tell with B&B's unless you know someone who has actually seen or stayed there. From what I can see on the web, everything looks reasonably priced so that is not an issue.

Alex I can be of no help except to say that I've been to the wineries and little shops at Hermann a few times and I doubt you'll find exceptional B&B lodging there. The area is too small and remote to be able to attract the kind of money which would be necessary to support a really nice place. Go in without high expectations and you'll probably be fine. I suppose it's possible that there's some little gem hiding in Hermann, but this town is way off the beaten path. Hope things turn out well.

Thanks May. I was kind of getting that feeling from looking at the available accommodations on the internet but was hoping that maybe someone had stayed someplace with some local charm or history that they could recommend. It looks like a very pretty area though and the wedding is at one of the wineries so it should be nice.

I think the Hermann Hill Winery/B&B is the best in town (obviously the wedding couple do too). The pix at hermannhill.com show rooms and views.
The Hermann valley area is a rather unusually pretty part of Missouri (which is quite bland and flat in the northern 2/3 of the stated). The big rolling hills are slightly reminiscent of Napa and France. Just not a whole lot of population in this area.

Thanks Jay. I had found the Hermann Hill Winery Inn online and thought the pictures were beautiful so I was a little disheartened when we were told that we could not stay there. I lived in St. Louis for several months but I never ventured to Hermann.
