Totally agree with SiteC_er regarding the Mauna Kea and it's sister property, the Hapuna Beach. Did not care for the Mauna Lani, I mean it's a nice enough property, just didn't have the Hawaiian feel the Mauna Kea had.

Agree. We have stayed at the Mauna Lani, and have snorkeled at Mauna Kea, swam at Hapuna.
We liked the Mauna Lani a lot. It is an elegant resort, with a small cove for snorkeling and nice enough shoreline. But it feels more like a conference hotel (which is why we were there).
The other two have better beach locations.

The Mauna Lani is beautiful. We stayed there this May and went to the Muana Kea for lunch. All four of us like the ML. The Mauna Lani is one beautiful piece of property. It has far better snorkeling maybe the best on the Kohala. The land is special with ponds, gardens and trails. You can feel the past. The beach is small but has beautiful white sand and very protected.
I admit that the Muana Kea has the better beach. However, there is more to life than a beach. If you love to snorkel, like history and a natural setting, Muana Lani is the place.
