Most shops in Bar Harbor are of the typical tourist variety. If you want good shopping, head to Freeport, not Bar Harbor.

Don't drink Cosmos, so I can't help you there. We usually hit a couple bars and stroll from place to place having a drink here and a drink there.

Have to agree with Mazey- if you're a shopper, Bar Harbor is not your kind of place.

Funny you should mention Cosmos- a few years ago I tried to order one in BH. I had never had one, and really hated it, but realize now that they had served me a Manhattan! Hopefully they are popular enough now that even Maine bartenders can make them.

So what is there to do in Bar Harbor? I don't want to go outlet shopping but there must be something fun to shop for? Anything to do?

We go there to spend time in Acadia-hiking, biking, kayaking, picnicing...
There are also whale-watch trips available. Not sure why you thought it would be a good place to go if your main focus is shopping.

Ok but there must be places to eat, drink etc. How about book stores? What if it is rainy?

Take a ride on the schooner with the big red sails (I forget the name of it). If you're feeling adventurous, rent one of the little powerboats and explore the island on your own We did this and it was a blast. At one point about a dozen dolphins were cruising along with us and leaping out of the water. Since the boat sits about 1' above the surface thy were leaping above us. Watch for eagle out there too.
Go to the top of Mount Cadillac to watch the sunset...wonderful..or go for sunrise if you can get up that early.
There's a nice Native American museum in town.
Walking the coast at Acadia, cycling the carriage trails, beachcombing.
There are tons of great bars and restaurants in Ba Haba and I'm sure someone knows how to make a cosmo.

The shops in Bar Harbor were simply charming. I loved the wide variety of places to eat really adorable. The Bluenose was simply delightful and spotless! My only complaint about the hotel was that it wasn't walking distance to shops.

Just as well you were away from the harbor. Otherwise, you'd have been driven mad by the boat and fog horns.

There is a nice bookstore in Bar Harbor. Most of the shops are of the typical tee shirt/ice cream variety as well as hiking/biking gear. There there is a really beautiful walking path along the water's edge from the bottom of Main Street. There are also 2 movie theaters.
