The Amana colonies have many B&B's. It's easy to spend a day in that area.

Mont Rest in Bellvue is great. www.montrest.com Very victorian and luxurious as well with jacuzzis and fireplaces. Bellvue is on the Mississippi River and a quaint river town with some little antique shops and such.

Since I don't know what area of the state you are interested in I suggest you check out this web site. www.traveliowa.com this has all kinds of information about cities and towns and there activites throughout the state. If you go into publications you can request a free travel guide, map and calendar of events. A beautiful B&B not to far from DesMoines is The LaCorsette Maison Inn (Newton, IA). There web site is www.lacorsette.com. Our state fair is in August and is one of the largest in the nation. Lots of food, displays, music, livestock and fun. If you enjoy sports the Iowa-Cubs are in downtown DesMoines, they have a very nice ballbark, games are inexpensive and you can walk to Court Ave after the game, it's the main street downtown with many restaurants. Many people enjoy the Amana Colony area it is a big tourist attraction, it has many craft shops, sweet shops, they make there own wine and also have a brewery (Millstream beer)it's very good. To find out more B&B places look at www.bnbfinder.com that might help also. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your trip.
