Can I Find a Place to Write in Reno?
Hello all,
I’m a part time writer and am wondering about Reno being a good place to do some writing. There is something about getting a way from home that is often helpful to me.
I’m thinking Reno as a possibility. Do some writing during the day, and then have some fun listing to music, drinking a few beers etc. I’m not worried about Reno having some nightlife, certainly covered there.
But what about a place to do some writing? For example, I was in Las Vegas, staying downtown. There was virtually no where to grab a table of some kind and write. The only place I found was an outside table at the Starbucks near the Golden Nugget. I went over to the Strip and my luck was even less. Now I didn’t go to Vegas on that occasion to specifically write, it was more of an offshoot. And I was certainly not surprised at my lack of luck in finding some place to sit and write – that’s just not Las Vegas.
But would downtown Reno be any different? Maybe it has more of a “city” atmosphere? That is, coffee shops, small cafes, etc. Where I live, there are plenty of places like that and doing things like reading, writing, or working are not only acceptable, but encouraged (assuming you continue to be a paying customer during your stay, of course.)
Thanks for your help.

I think the river area is lovely too, with the "babbling brook" effect. Also, I seem to remember,a few blocks south of the river is a wonderful town library, with a quiet, spacious atrium overlooking tables and chairs. We just went there to use the internet (a separate room) and I was impressed.

Gotta go with the revitalized downtown Art Area, aka river area. We were there a couple of weeks ago, sat in a terrific bistro by the river and enjoyed live flamenco guitar that drew us in and bathed our weary souls. Great spot for people watching or disappaaring into yourself. Kiddos were entertained too. Dress in layers, bring an umbrella. Enjoy!
