Going to graceland, graceland...

Any advice - necessary to buy tickets in advance??? And is the cars/airplane tour worth the extra cash? We're not huge elvis fans but still excited to see it...

You probably won't have a problem with tours selling out, but if you buy your tickets in advance, you can skip the long wait in line to buy tickets.
The cars/airplane are worth the extra money. Go for the Platinum Tour, that will get you into all the extra little exhibits. We went this past June and really enjoyed it, I'm a big Elvis fan, but my boyfriend was not and he came away with an appreciation for Elvis's talent that he did not have before.

My wife's from Memphis and I've probably been to Memphis 50 times and always resisted going to Graceland. But, eventually I went and it was at least worth going once. If I remember correctly, you park and have to walk by the airliner exhibit to get to the house etc. so if it isn't a big difference I would go ahead and do it. We did the airplanes but I can't remember what the price difference was. Let's face it, how many times are you going to go there, might as well do the whole thing. BTW, if you're not from Memphis, you have to try the BBQ, it's killer!!

We got AAA discount at the window. There are probably lots of other discounts available.

Go the whole hog on your tour. The plane and car exhibits are great to let you really appreciate his excess.

We just walked up to the window on a Saturday and had no problems. We aren't huge Elvis fans so we just did the mansion tour.
Definetly have a grilled peanut butter & banana sandwich...very tasty!

The cars and airplanes were my favorite part of the tour! We bought our tickets ahead of time, but there was not a long line when we went (caveat: It was a weekday).

Even if you don't like Elvis the tour is worth it. My sister is a museum director and she always says that there are two historic homes where you really get the feeling of knowing the person who lived there. One is Monticello and the other is, you guessed it, Graceland.
