Getty to LAX

Can anyone give me a rough estimate on the drive time from the Getty to LAX on a Sunday afternoon? Thanks

Yes it is about a 20 minute drive... but also account for the tram ride down the hill from the museum to your car, about 10-15 minutes.

20 minutes is reasonable but sometimes there are unexplainable slowdowns on the 405 by Westwood and I-10. If so, 40 minutes is possible.

Hiroshi, that doesn't happen on a Sunday afternoon unless there's an accident. Today, we had probably the last of the big rains for the season, and generally rain is the only thing that slows down a Sunday drive. Had SAB said any day other than Sunday (except, maybe Saturday), you'd double the time or take Sepulveda from Getty to LAX, which would take a max of 35 minutes, except on Fridays, which, for some unknown reason, is always slower.

No, not 20 minutes. Not 40 minutes. Not 25 minutes. The correct answer is 27.5 minutes, plus or minus twenty seconds.

I'm thinking that this thread is calling for a wager. Whatever time SAB actually takes to get from Getty to LAX determines who is buying drinks for all contributing LA Fodorites.

Thanks for all the responses, if I plan on a max. of 45 mins I should be fine. Would rather spend time at the Getty than the airport. Query: re parking at Getty--web site states there is no need to make reservation on Sunday--is this true? I plan on being there around opening time. Again thanks to the Los Angelenos on the board, from hotel recommendations to travel routes you have all been very helpful to this Northern Californian. I'll try to remember this when we engage in our ritual LA bashing, except of course, when the Dodgers play the Gaints.

Well, it always DOES take a little longer to get anywhere when the gaints are in town!!!

Let's hear back from you when you've done the drive. If it's 27.5 minutes, I promise not to by one grilled Dodger Dog the whole season!

Oops, now I'm following you. Make that "buy", not "by"!

For those very few who wanted to know--it took me 30 mins to get from the Getty (including the tram) to Alamo Car Rental drop off on aviation. If I had gone straight to LAX, Big money would have been really close in time. Thanks again to the Angelenos for you help -- had a lovely time in LA. BTW I highly recommend Surya on West 3d--very nice Indian restaurant.
