Getting from SBP (San Luis Obispo) to PSP
I need to fly from San Luis Obispo to Palm Springs (driving is not an option for various reasons).
United wants over $1000 PP for a round trip ticket, while American requires you to fly to LAX, then SFO, and finally to PSP.
Just ridiculous. I'm starting to think I could hire a freaking private charter plane for less money and hassle.
Any suggestions or (especially) first-hand experience flying from SLO to Palm Springs appreciated.

Nope WN (Southwest) does not serve Palm Springs.
Do you mean you driving is not an option - or that any car is not an option? You could hire a driver to either take you to Palm Springs or to LAX. Or Maybe to Monterey. There are no flights from Monterey to PSP, but you might get a cheaper fare from MRY to LAX or SFO and on to PSP
If you mean you need to fly and nothing else works - you are not going to find any reasonable fares or direct flights from the Central Coast to PSP.

fdecarlo, agree with janis - a driver might be your best option if a car but not driving is the issue. I have lived in California for many many years and didn't know until your post that San Luis Obispo even HAS an airport. Palm Springs has a very nice airport, but even so, there aren't many airlines that fly there. Flying ANYWHERE from SLO is likely to require flying first to one of the bigger airports/cities and then to where you're going.

Thanks guys. We found a way that takes us literally door to door, and for $117 RT/PP. It's called Amtrak.
With the screwy layover requirements, air travel times between these two points is not much shorter than rail.

Amtrak is an interesting option. There is a station on Indian Avenue in North Palm Springs. The good part is you will take the very scenic coastal route down from SLO through the Nipomo Mesa and Santa Barbara. The bad part is you go through L.A. and Amtrak is not known to be overly reliable as far as timeliness and dependability?
But, it is a great adventure.
I agree $1000 is absurd, though I have found fares like dmlove or even cheaper.
Good luck!
