Furniture Week - or whatever they call it in High Point - When is it?

I must be google-impaired since I can't seem to find out. Had difficult time booking hotel in Burolington, NC for last weekend in April and wondering if this was what was going on. Also, air fares into Raleigh-Durham are almost twice what they usually are. Just curious - I found a hotel and am going anyway.

I could be wrong, but I thought furniture fairs take place throughout the year except winter time. Since it's the furniture capital of USA, I don't think it is only limited to one week out of the year.

I work nearby in Greensboro, this should get you what you need. http://www.highpoint.org/ You can also look at flights into CLT or GSO. Greensboro (GSO) would be closest.

Yes, the true High Point furniture market (to the trade only) is twice a year -- a little over a week at a time once in the spring and once in the fall. It is >>>chaos<<< at that time.

Be sure to get a rental car lined up -- that was always our worst nighmare there -- including the time we had a prepaid Hertz one (the only way they'd do it during market) and we arrived at the airport with their having NO cars. They put us in a taxi to our hotel and delivered a car to us a day later. Still, it was a big inconvenience -- and this was when they were charging us close to $100 a day for a compact rental car!!!

OH, and the usual was that flights into Greensboro were filled up way ahead of time. People started flying into Raleigh or Charlotte only when there were no more seats or flights into Greensboro.

Thanks all - I know they sell furniture all year so perhapsI should have been more specific - I was referring to trade shows, and it does appear, from link provided that there is one beginning that weekend.

Good idea about car - had not thought about that. Have hotel booked. Am visiting dtr at Elon Univ, which is closer to Greensboro, but I prefer to fly non-stop into RDU than change planes.

Thanks for the info.

gail - Have to agree, I would never bother to change planes when you can drive from RDU to Elon in about an hour, without worrying about delays. And in this case, you'd have the plus of being able to rent a car from RDU, which would have a larger selection. How is your daughter liking Elon?

Actually, I think it's more than an hour (despite MapGoogle estimate), but the point stands.

Here are the dates for High Point furniture market.
It has gone back to the original Mon-Friday schedule.
The week before is pre-market which is when the manufacturers and reps set up their booths and exhibits. The days following "market" are breakdown days. Hotels in High Point, Greensboro and surrounding towns are usually filled, and yes, it is difficult to get a rental car, and the rates are usually much much higher.
