Fun with young adult kids in N Calif j

We will be in Northern Calif end of June. My husband will be working a few days at Sonoma Race, Fri/Sat. Then we will have Sun/Mon to do something with 27 and 18 yr old daughters. possibly 24 yr old son as well. Staying in Salsalito/Tiberon area.
Any suggestions?

If you have never been to San Francisco, then spend some time there. So much to chose from. Agree....what are your interests?

You posted about a trip to Spain on the Europe board. Can you please tell how long it took you to both enter and exit from Gibraltar. And, if on foot or in a car. Thanks !

RE: Gibraltar- we drove- just 15 min in line, presented passports. Then we drove across the runway, which is unusual. Course, money is the Pound. Took the gondola to top of rock which is reasonable, wait time about 20 minutes ..the tour guides on the streets try scare tactics like saying its a 3 hr wait but certainly not the case for us. Spectacular views! But that is all I could see to do and pound is pricey!

Re:CA- views, wine country, some hiking, quintessential CA stuff --could stay in Tiberon entire time. Or split up time. My daughters have never been to CA. My husband likes the remote locations like light House above San Fran, most likely will go there and Muir Woods. albeit, kids will want a little more social aspect.
Heard there was a train thru wine country.
Probably will go to San Fran for at least one day with just girls. We have been there but not really sure what to do there. Been to Warf, seemed ok

Don't do the wine train. Use your car to explore.

Drive up the #101 to Healdsburg. Cute town. Also instead of Muir woods, go to Armstrong woods State Park in Guerneville.. just west of Healdsburg. You will find old growth Redwoods with no tourists. A joy to walk through.

In San Fran you could try the Segway tours. Heard it's fun- have not tried myself.
Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Walk around china town.
Attend a play at the Curran- not sure what's playing.

Gibraltar:- amazed your wait was only 15 min as wait times have been up to 5 hrs both ways !! Guess the pressure that the UK has put on Spain has paid off. No, we've been there, done that many decades ago. No need to return.

Especially since you're staying in Tiburon/Sausalito, I'd hike on Mt. Tam for the most spectacular views. Maybe take a drive up to Pt. Reyes Station and Tomales Bay (barbecued oysters at the Marshall Store - yummm). Spend a day or two in the city -- Embarcadero, North Beach, Chinatown, hidden stairways, Union Square. Walk (flat) at Chrissy Field to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Where are you coming from? I'd recommend different things if you're coming from a small town than if you're coming from Manhattan.

I like everyone's ideas. Will take train off the list. I hear nice but probably not for our group.
Actually one daughter from Manhatten, haha and son from Charlotte and we live in med. town in NC.
Prob have Friday/Sat covered since Manhatten girl has a second office and friends to direct us.
Day 1/2 San Fran's ( guys working-someone has to)
Day 3 Tiberon (walk bridge at some point)
Day 4-5 North what kleroux and sf7307 noted. Have been to some of those magnificent places and want to share with kids and heard mt Tams was fabulous. Interesting food comment, Manhatten girl enjoys interesting food. And wine tasting (since 18 yr old has been in Europe for a year, that boat has sailed).
Somewhere with music would be terrific.
Looking for place to stay that young adults will like.
Day 6 Return home or stay a few more days, Not certain of lengthy of time.

Thank you for comments. They really are helpful.

For that age-group, head to the Mission District. Murals (Balmy Alley, Clarion Alley, and everything in between), interesting shopping (Valencia St especially), a dynamic vibe, and some of the best restaurants in San Francisco (Tartine, Delfina, Flour + Water, Foreign Cinema, Ichi Sushi...the list goes on). The SF Chronicle just came out with its 100 top restaurants for 2015--reservations probably needed for most all of them: http://www.sfchronicle.com/food/top-100-2015/

For a great hike, take the short ferry ride from Tiburon to Angel Island. You can walk the island's perimeter (5 miles) for great views, and/or climb to the top for a nice workout and more great views. You can also check out the historical sites on the island and picnic on the shore in the cove where the ferry lands.
