  Pack as light as you think is feasible. When your trip is over, as you unpack, make a list of the things you actually wore/used. Next trip, pack only those things on the list (or less!).

  Prefer renting an apartment or cottage, but loved my stays in the Lowndes Hotel in London; Stari Grad in Dubrovnik; Kinsuikan Ryokan in Miyajima, Japan; and Piedras y Olas-Pelican Eyes in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
• Favorite restaurant
  Eiji, a tiny Japanese restaurant in the Castro in San Francisco
• Never travels without
  a cotton scarf or pashmina--depending on the season
• All-time best travel moment
  Watching dusk fall on the sea while sitting at the cliffside Buza Bar in Dubrovnik, listening to soft jazz with my husband beside me
