Florida travel
I will be traveling with my family to Florida the third week in June. Does anyone have suggestions on where to go that will be the least expensive that time of the year? We would like to fly from Austin or Dallas, TX.

Without checking, I would imagine the southern most parts like Ft. Lauderdale would be the least expensive. Their high season is spring and fall when folks are escaping winter weather. Places like the Gulf area are in their high season in the summer. That doesn't mean you won't find accomodations but they'll be in their highest price range at that time. Good luck!

It is the off season everywhere in Florida except for Orlando (Disney), so you can get good rates anywhere. The winter months are peak season here.
Key West is always pricey, but you can get some decent rates in June.

Check out Anna Maria Island. They have a free trolly that goes around the whole island and even can make bus connections to Bradenton or Sarasota if you don't have a car. Good if you have teens that can go out w/o driving a car around. It's very safe. Never any trouble. We have been there 8 times, the last 2 w/o a car were the most fun.
Island Vacation Proberties have been good for condo rentals, (close to beach and has a pool) although we have used others. Check out the chamber and they will mail you as much info about the area sa you want. We stay at Fountainhead at 36th and 6th av. It is close to shopping center, public beach and trolly stops. Lots to do there and many good locally owned restaurants...several right on the beach so you can catch and after dinner sunset.
Let me know if you need more info!

Forgot to mention that you can fly into Sarasota from Dallas. It's a small airport and there are private vans that will take you dirsctly to your condo on teh island for $35 for up to 6 people. At least that's what it was in March '08...may have gone up since, but it's still a deal.
