Florida in July with kids 11 to 16 - Siesta Key or Anna Maria or where?

I have Marriott Vacation Club resort at Singer Island reserved, but I'm thinking I will cancel. We don't particularly like the Atlantic side beaches with brown sand and water - we prefer the white beaches and blue/green water. Also would love to see the sun set over the water.

We have been to the panhandle before and love it, but Destin is too crowded and Seaside is great but more than we can afford right now (around $3000 for a week's stay).

We'd like someplace with white beaches and clean water and it would be nice if it was someplace quiet and low key enough that the kids could run around a little without us having to worry or be with them every second. We like upscale, but not SO upscale that we are in the middle of a bunch of rich snobs...We aren't rich but we like nice surroundings.

We had thought of Sanibel/Captiva also.

Any ideas on places to stay where we can walk out on our balcony and have a full view of the ocean?

Also, is it going to be miserably hot and humid in Florida in July? Probably so, but the kids want to go to the beach.

Had considered California also, but had decided that for a nice beach with clean water the central coast would be best. But am hearing it may be foggy there in July, may be cold and the water is cold. And it's looking like it would be more expensive than Florida also.

My parents took kids to Siesta Key for years - my husband and I have taken our kids. July is not high season there -you should be able to get a nice 2 bedroom condo for about $1000 a week and up (based on the usual things - view, proximity to beach, etc.) It is hot, but that never bothers us with the gulf and pools. The gulf water is nice for swimming - warm enough you can stay in it for hours. There are a lot of restaurants that are good for kids your age - casual, not too expensive, but good food.

As for your kids running around, I don't know if you mean around the resort or around the island. I would have no problem sending them to beach or pool. They can also take long walks on the beach and act like they are there by themselves (one of me and my sister's favorite activies in our teen years.)

I lived in south Florida for five years.....go to Sanibel Island/Captiva. You would not regret it. The most beautiful beaches and the people are wonderful....the restaurants are wonderful, too. I had to relocate back to northeast and just thinking about it makes me want to go back! Enjoy!
