Favorite places to eat in Oahu?

OKay... I am here now - we have 3 nights left and looking for some good REASONABLE local Hawaiian food/seafood.

We have been to Roys and the hotel place - as well as a few local places around Ko Olina and we went to the Shrimp Shack twice and LOVED it - (when comparing the $$ for the meal for 4 at Roy's vs. the Shrimp Shack... I will take the Shrimp Shack! 60.00 for the 4 of us including two beers and two glasses of wine... vs 300.00)...

On Thursday we will be on the North Shore again - so that is an area we are looking for - but would like suggestions for the area we are staying in - Ko Olina if possible for the next few nights - anyone ?

Hi Dawn!

I was just wondering if you were having a good trip so I clicked on you name and saw this.

I don't know of anything near the Ko' Olina but here are some Hawaiian type places we have enjoyed. My husband and I stayed at the Kahala a couple of years ago and a friend who is a local recommended 3660 on the Rise. We have eaten there twice but it has been over a year so I can't say if it has changed or not. I guess you would call it Asian Fusion. It wasn't cheap eats but it wasn't a tourist spot and we thought it was reasonable. Here is a link to their website http://www.3660.com/ It is out of your way from Ko' Olina but if you are going to be out and about it is near the Kohala Mall area.

We also love Japanese food and we discovered a place in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center that is an Okonomiyaki place, described as Japanese pizza, but closer to an omelette in my opinion. www.chibohawaii.com. It is not "Hawaiian" but it is very good and something you don't find in most places.

I also bookmarked a couple of places that I saw on either Diners, Drive-ins and Dives or Man vs Food that I have no personal knowledge of but they sure look interesting and might be cheaper and one is closer to the north shore. The closer one is the Hukilau Cafe in Laie, no website but it is on Yelp and gets good reviews. Looks like it falls into the "dive" category open for breakfast and lunch only! Maybe a spot to stop if you drive the long way to the North Shore! It looks like it is a bit North of the Polynesian Cultural Center. The other was in Honolulu, Helena's Hawaiian Food www.helenashawaiianfood.com

Not sure if that is of much help! However I hope you are having a great time, look forward to hearing about the trip! I have to live vicariously until I manage to get my own Hawaii fix.

ALOHA!!!

This is a link to a place we love and eat at every time in Oahu.

http://www.tasteofaloha.com/restaurants/aiea+chop+suey

We used to live in Pearl City up Kaahumanu and would see Tom Selleck in the neighborhood once in awhile.

Near Pearl City: not Ko Olina but closer than Waikiki

Plus you can drive by the watercress farm near Pearl City Mall and there is a Malasada truck nearby.

Maybe you can find some other great places... via link too.

Thanks everyone!!

Suz... I have a funny story for you - here I am in Oahu...and we were over at a Parasail place and I saw this Zumba sign and I thought of you - I had to giggle to myself and know how much you love zumba AND Hawaii

We have had a blast so far - the weather has been a little more stormy/rainy than we are use to here - this makes my 5th trip (I know a newbie!) to the Islands and it has been the most rainy. There were flash flood warnings and at least one car was washed into the ocean over on the north side(no one was injured). It has not really bothered me - as I do not lay out in the sun, but I know my daughter's would have liked more sun.

They have had a wonderful time though!

I think next time I want to rent a house again (we have done that in one of our trips) I seem to get more and more cranky with resorts - not really their fault- it is more me. All the rules - wear a wrist band, check the towels in and out... blah blah... too many rules

Thanks for thinking of me MomDD. I HAVE done Zumba in Hawaii. I took 4 classes at 3 different places my last trip to Waikiki.

I've never stayed anywhere you have to wear a wristband. Yikes! I hate rules ;-) I'm not sure I could do that.

My trip last month to Puerto Vallarta I had an apartment and it was fabulous, and turned out no more expensive than my usual budget hotel but I got a LOT more for the money. So I understand the home rental idea, definitely!

Dawn,

A couple of place you might want to try on the North Shore

Kua Aina, right in Haleiwa for burgers.
If you are not sick of shrimp plates yet try Giovani's in Haleiwa or Kahuku or Romy's (one of my favorite place for shrimp plates.

Wailua Bakery, great avocado sandwiche on homemade bread

Haleiwa Eat for Thai food

When you are driving down Kam Hwy heading towards Turtle Bay, the (big) fruit stands sell great fried bananas (lumpia), cold young coconuts, sweet corn and mangos. The garlic peanuts are good.

Sorry about the weather. Wish it was nicer for your family but I hope you are having a great time in Paradise

Sharks Cove Grill http://www.sharkscovegrill.com/shark...u_skewers.html is located next to Foodland, right on the highway. the food was very fresh and light. it was kind of a relief to be able to order a reasonably priced plate with brown rice instead of macaroni salad! as i recall the plates are around $10.

Ted's Bakery http://www.tedsbakery.com/Reviews.html is good but definitely not "light" in any way. the desserts are delicious.

Good morning! It is about 6:30 am here in Hawaii - we fly out today. Thank you one and all for the great recommendations. We ended up staying close to the resort the last few nights - we had explored most of the previous days and nights and wanted to just relax on the beach the last few days.

Aloha - I have been to Shark's Cove Grill a few times and always enjoyed it!

CG - the weather did not put a damper on our fun!

Suze - I am hoping you did a trip report on PV - I will have to check it out.

Mahalo again everyone! We fly out to California today - and back to the heat in Texas next Wed.
