evenings in san fran
We will be in San Fran from 12/24 - 12/27 with two children ages 6 & 9. Any suggestions for evening entertainment? It looks like we will just miss the opening of the Lion King and I think Cirque Du Soliel will have closed. Any help would be appreciated!

The Wizard of Oz at Oakland's Paramount - BART stop 19th street, 1/2 block from BART.
There is always something going on at Pier 39.
Check sfgate.com entertainment and theatrebayarea.com later, in mid-December.
On the 25th it may be a problem. Most everything will be closed.

On a trip to SF just before Christmas one year we had the pleasure of enjoying the American Conservatory Theater's production of Dickens' A Christmas Carol at the the Geary Theatre near Union Square. Looking at their website, I see they will have two performances on Christmas Eve and two on 26 Dec. Highly recommended for the whole family!

OOH Definitely go ice skating. Tons of Fun. Also fun could be walking around Union Square to look in the windows at the big store displays. Two of my friends went last year with their girls 8 & 10, and the girls loved it.

Just went ice skating at the Embarcadero Center on Friday night. It was a lot of fun, the rink is a pretty good size (not dinky by any means, plenty of room to move around), it's well lit, and the music is classic ice rink BAD. It was $22 for two adults with skate rental. We did the 10-11pm session...it's cool that it's open that late, but other than the rink the center and all surrounding shops were deader than dead--EVERYTHING closed at around 8pm it seemed, no coffee, no nothing. I would think someone would at least capitalize with a coffee cart or something. But it was a lot of fun and we're looking forward to doing it again. It's in the very last Embarcadero center building.
