Entertainment for 6 - Yr. Old.... RDU area (&in general)
We have our lovely 6-yr. old granddaughter coming for a week this month. I have some ideas of my own, but what have you done with a 6 yr. old lately that she/he loved, and if any of you live near Raleigh, do you know of any attractions around here that you'd like to recommend?

This is from someone without kids, so I'm not an expert.
In Raleigh, Exploris, and the other downtown museums. If you live toward Zebulon, Carolina Mudcats game, otherwise Durham Bulls (my friends with kids love the play ground at the DBAP).
Also in Durham, NC Museum of Life and Science. The carosel at Northgate Mall. Run around Duke gardens.
Boating/swimming at Jordan Lake.
I think (please double check) you can watch planes at RDU from a park there.
The NC Zoo (an hour or so from Raleigh) has a new Australia exhibit with kangaroos. If you haven't been to the zoo, the animals have a lot of space to wander around in, they usually pick an area away from the humans.

TTT.......... Thank you, ncgrrl. We will definitely take a trip to the zoo, as I'm sure she would love the kangaroos. Thanks for telling me about that new exhibit. We were already thinking about Exploris, and I understand we have a new restaurant at the airport where you can view the planes coming & going! Thanks ........

I think the most valuable part of her visit is the time she spends with you. I remember cooking with my grandmother, and her teaching me how to play gin rummy, and taking a walk to meet the neighbors.
My best friend's 14 year old grandson still asks to play the game "Sorry" she taught him when he was six.

Abram, you are absolutely right! She & I bake cookies and cakes together, and Grandpa and she always make pancakes. I have taught her Parcheesi because my grandmother taught me, as well as lots of other fun games. Yes, that is the most important part!
