Entertaining Family - Suggestions for overnight trip to Vermont

My sister and her family (husband and kids (8 and 15) will be visiting for a few days the end of June. On previous visits, they've been to the usual places - Albany sites, Lake George, Saratoga, Bennington, Manchester, Vt, Mystic, Ct and areas south of Albany. I'd like to come up with an overnight trip that would be enjoyable for all, especially for the kids, and would include some new places. I was thinking of Shelburne Farms and Museum combined with other attractions. We are looking for relatively inexpensive adventures, scenic views, and short hikes. What would you suggest? I live near Albany.

Shelburne is a great idea. You've not only got Shelburne Farms and Shelburne Museum, but the Vermont Teddy Bear factory as well. There are quite a few short hikes in the area, one being Mount Philo. Great views. Another, which you could do either on your way to or from is Snake Mountain in Addison. There is a small motel in Shelburne that advertises museum discounts....I think it's called the Countryside Motel. Looks nice on the outside....hope this helps.

BM, I didn't know about the Teddy Bear Factory. The 8-year-old would enjoy that. Mount Philo sounds perfect. Great views and a short hike. (My brother-in-law has some difficulty walking long distances.) Thanks for the info.

You also might like to stop at the Basin Harbor Club and visit the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. It's a nice, small museum depicting the history of boating on the Lake. It is located in Ferrisburgh, about 6 or so miles NW of Vergennes.

Shelburne is great! Bring a spear film - you'll take lots of pictures there.
