Driving from Central New Jersey....

The Triple A office gave me directions of Turnpike to 95 And stay on 95 until Brunswick, Maine, does anyone have any better directions? Or is that the best and fastest way to go? Thank you. (Going to Boothbay Harbor)

Marla,

Go to mapquest and plug in your starting point and Brunswick, Maine, as your destination. It will take you a better way thru Conn and Mass. It's been a few years, but I remember I-95 thru Conn was an awful road & lots of truck.

That would be the most direct route. One possible alternative is to take 95, the NJ Turnpike to the GW Bridge. Take the Henry Hudson Parkway North until it becomes the Saw Mill Parkway. The Saw Mill turns into the Merritt Parkway once you are in Connecticut. The Merritt is a bit more scenic and doesn't have trucks. Around New Haven, connect back to 95. (Don't remember the exact raod, but it isn't far.)

One caveat, if you are leaving on a Friday afternoon in the Summer, there is really no great route.

I agree with Budman. 95 is MURDER through the Bronx & Conn. Certainly avoid rush hour. Ryan's route is scenic. The Saw Mill is very "twisty" though.

Definitely take the Merritt route - I go to Hartford periodically and have tried both routes - the Merritt has always beel less hassle and a more pleasant drive.
