Dog Sled Tours in Juneau
Has anyone taken the dog sled tours in Juneau? They are pricey at $536 pp but could be a chance of a lifetime. It inclu helicopter & dog sled ride on Mendenhall Glacier.
If I book independently of Celebrity, there's a similar tour with Shore Trips except they go to Herbert Glacier instead. I would save $100 per person thru them but I worry that ship will honor excursion made with them and not wait, etc., if something went wrong with an independent excursion.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

First off, I NEVER recommend Shoretrips for any Alaska bookings, they are a middle man only. It is ALWAYS better to book direct with the companies.
Mendenhall is NO better/worse than any other glacier, just more known. Your ship contracted tour is with TEMSCO. Independent, which shore tours is booking you on is with Coastal, So just go direct with them. They run excellent tours.
Finally- have BACK UP PLANS. This is the most canceled tour in Alaska. Be prepared to make a fast choice, if you would go on a regular glacier helicopter landing if available. Know what else is available in Juneau and have phone numbers with you, if a specific tour is of interest.

ny2az- curious to hear about your excursion booking experience. We are going to be on the Celebrity as well and in a quandry about booking with the cruise company or independent.
Glad you enjoyed the dog sledding- I have actually done that here in Oregon-
I am interested in a flight seeing excursion and whale watching -
what other excursions did you do?

In Alaska, it is darn simple to just book direct. With that, you get all your questions answered directly and schedules that match up perfectly with your port times.
There is a large "list" of excellent independent, long standing vendors that are highly recommended to consider.
Independent, will always have more personal attention, smaller groups, sometimes longer tours, rarely big savings.
IF you are looking for flight seeing and whale watching out of Juneau- it is important to try and co booking them, so to save transit time. I highly recommend Orca Enterprises for whale watching.
