Disney resort Hilton Head South Carolina

We are thinking of taking a family vacation to the above mentioned locale. Would love input from anyone who has stayed there- Did you like it, was it clean, are there Disney characters on site?

Lee-

Not sure about the site itself, but the general Hilton Head area is wonderful. I have no reason to think the Disney resort quality would be anything less than the usual Disney quality. Hopefully other posters can be more specific regarding the resort itself, but here is my two cents about the general area...

Hilton Head has great beaches and restaurants. There are countless posts regarding the island - just do a search in the SC channel or search for Hilton Head.

HH is also in between two fantastic cities: Charleston and Savannah, rated #3 and #6 rspectively by Conde Naste Traveler as the best US destinations.

Beaufort SC is a great small Southern town. Like I said before, just do a search for the area for more specifics.

Point being, if for some reason the Disney Resort doesn't live up to your expectations, there is plenty around to do to make up for it. Have fun!

Hello Lee! Although I am the board's expert on Hawaii, I have a wealth of knowledge on Hilton Head.

The first thing to realize about the Disney resort in Hilton Head is that you are not on the ocean. You are about a mile away. There is a Disney shuttle that will take you to their "beach house" but is that what you want to do--get in your swim suit, leave your room, wait for a van, drive to a parking lot, walk through a beach house and then to the beach. When you want to leave you do everything in reverse.

The Disney resort sits adjacent to Shelter Cove-a marina area with shopping and dining and big yachts. This area is easily walkable from Disney. There is also a free folk singer that the kids might enjoy at the marina nightly. There is also a fireworks show every Tuesday in the summer.

It is my understanding that resort accomodations are nice and can have multiple bedrooms.

What you need to decide is how important is the beach to your vacation is the hassle factor a problem?

Alternate choices include the Westin and Marriott resorts and a myriad of ocean front condos.

Another case easily solved! You're welcome!

We stayed on the beach next to Disney's beach house. It was nice, but not outstanding. I'm glad we stayed on the beach itself at another resort rather than having a condo across the island.

I have stayed there several times and never seen characters. Most people seem to smartly use the site as a break from the NE, to and from Orlando. I would strongly recommend the site for a full vacation however. The distance to the beach is very short and they have a beautiful pool at their beach facility which is one of the nicest in HHI.
