Dealings with Russian Embassy in Houston

We are plannning a trip to Russia for August and I was wondering if anyone has had any dealings with getting a Visa thru the Russian Embassy in Houston.

There is a Russian Embassy where we live (overseas), but due to time constraints I'm not sure I can get the Visa done in time.

If I have the necessary documentation, does anyone have any idea how long it would take thru the Houston office? We will be in Houston for 4 days this summer.

The only place you have embassies are in the capital - Washington. Possibly you mean consulates.

We just FedExed our documents to a company in Washington, D.C. that does nothing but arrange Visas. We had considered going to the Russian Consulate in San Francisco, but after trying to reach them by phone several days with no answer, we decided against trying that. It would have been cheaper to go through the consulate, but since we had to send our passports in either case, we decided to go with the other alternative.

The company is: Generations Visa Service, 2233 Wisconsin Ave. N.W. #226, Washington, D.C. 20007-4119

Maybe you'll do better contacting the Houston Consulate. Lots of documentation, including passport size pictures. I guess you are aware of this.

We traced our package and it arrived in D.C. as scheduled. Now we wait for several weeks for the return of our passports with full-page Visa intact!

I remember reading advices on the European board. Try to do a search or post your question there.

Fiana - I will try it on the Europe board as well. SHould have thought of that to begin with.

Giovanna - sending them off really worries me (especially the thought of it taking several weeks) because we just don't have the time. We live overseas and are on ly in the US for a limited time (my DH's time is even more limitied). Was hoping if I dealt the the consulate in Houston that it would shorten it a bit......I could handle up to about 2 weeks, but that's it!

AUGH.....may have to postpone trip to October when I have time to deal with the consulate here.

Thanks!

Don't know about complication of yourliving outside of US - but when my husband had to go to Russia on a business trip on relatively short notice 2 years ago they used a visa expediting service and had no problem.

Looks like for various increases in cost....I can get the processing done at the Houston consulate in less than a week. That should do it!

Okay - now on to flights!

Well, it's not worked out YET.....just have it as a possibly workable solution.

Will probably have my DH go thru the local Russian Embassy in our overseas location (he has more time and the language skills to get it done), but the kids and I will pay the $$$$ and use the consulate in Houston. We return to our overseas local just 3 days before heading to St. Petersburg.....so everything for us MUST be done well beforehand.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Geez...........
