Cost of ferry to Vancouver Island?
My wife a 2 kids (8 & 12) are driving to BC Canada in a borrowed 24' Winnebago. We would like to visit Vancouver Island, but have been told the the ferry there and back is VERY expensive for a vehicle of the size we'll be in, especially on weekends. Can anyone tell me how much it would cost for a return trip? Do the ferries operate 24 hours/7 day's a week? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,Ferries from Vancouver to Victoria will cost you $52 for 1st 20 ft and $2.60 for every foot over.$9.00 each per adult and $4.50 per child. This is EACH WAY.They run every hour from 7am to 10pm.7 days a week.Hope this helps. The island is beautiful and there is lots to see.If you just come over in a car it is $32.00 plus passenger fares.Hope this helps.

The fares quoted in the earlier post are in Canadian dollars. So divide them by about 1.45 to get the US equivalent. So $60 converts to about $41 US.
You can take ferries from Tsawwassen south of Vancouver to the Swartz Bay terminal about 16 to 17 miles from Victoria. Also ferries run from Horseshoe Bay north of Vancourver to Nanaimo. Also you can criss cross from Nanaimo to Tsawwassen. I don't recall if you can go from Horeshoe Bay to the Swartz Bay terminal.
We went from Tsawwassen to Victoria; and came back from Nanaimo to Tsawwassen. The main ferries are big ships and hold a lot of vehicles.
You can get a schedule from Tourism British Columbia. I cannot find mine, or I would give you more details.

Howard: Bob Brown again. BC Ferries has a good website that you can locate easily with Yahoo.
I just did and it looks pretty complete to me with fares and schedules. I think that will answer your questions better than any of us.
I typed in British Columbia Ferries and Yahoo did the rest.

No you can not go from Horseshoe Bay to Swartz Bay by ferry.Horeshoe Bay [north Vancouver ]goes to Nanaimo which is approx.2 hours north of Victoria.
Swartz Bay which is half an hour north of Victoria only goes to Twassassan[south of Vancouver]but at Twassassan you can either go to Nanaimo or Swartz Bay[Victoria].If you do go keep an eye out for the whales and avoid the ferry food.

Here is the homepage for the ferries.

Going to the island is worth every penny, especially if you have never been there. The summer is very busy over there and the popular places are usually fill up early in the day.
Enjoy
