Is using Priceline an option? Have you looked at quickbook.com , hotelkingdom.com or expedia.com? As you are fining out, this is a super busy time in NYC. Let us know what you have already tried so we don't tell you to do something you have already done.

If you do a search on this board under New York, you will find more than enough answers to your question.

I got a room at the Millenium Broadway (on Broadway and 44th) for 120 booking through expedia (1 week in advance)

Yes, you can, and without too much difficulty. Problem is, around Christmas is tight. Maybe keep trying to get last-minute specials.

I've had the best luck with a site called hotwire.com I've used this 3 times in NYC and have never been disappointed yet with the hotel or the price. YES, you can get a decent hotel for less than $150 per night (unless you're going to be there NY eve perhaps!!)

Close. The Park Central New York Hotel, 3-star located at Seventh Ave. and 56th St., has a room for Fri. night, 12/13 for $169 on an internet promo. They're booked for Sat. 12/14, but something might well open.

Sadly, IMHO, I don't think you can get a decent hotel for that price. My standards are a little high, though.

My fave is Sofitel on 44th. It creeps around 180 a night. Sometimes it dips down into the 160s.

VERY NICE.

I actually booked the Deauville,

for 117 plus tax.

it looks pretty good actually, not the Ritz but that is OK!
