Cincinnati for 10th wedding anniversary. Any Suggestions?

My wife and I will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in October and we just moved to Cincinnati. Any suggestions?

Maisonette in the only Zagat rated restaurant in the city. Book an overnight room downtown, have dinner at the Maisonette and then catch the symphony or a show. Congratulations.

Is the Maisonette still operating in Cincinnati? I thought they had closed their doors a few years ago.

Yes, the Maisonette is closed. There are plenty of great restaurants -- don't know where to begin. Pigalls downtown is probably the closest to the Maisonette (although I haven't been there in years), any of Jeff Ruby's restaurants, Redd2724 in Hyde Park, Primavista, Mesh in West Chester. There is a McCormick and Schmidts downtown and other restaurants are supposed to be opening around the Fountain Square area. Is there a cuisine or area of town that you are interested in?

Thanks for the suggestions. As for cuisine, I like seafood and my wife is a vegetarian (no red meat).

We will have a few days off from work, can anyone suggest a day trip from Cincinnati?

Louisville is a great weekend destination from Cincy & if you favor bourbon an overnight in Bardstown may be just the ticket. Depending on when you are going, Churchill Downs may also be open. For a little farther (& more 'outdoorsy'), try Land between the Lakes (also in Ky.) & you could add in Mammoth Caves. Not sure where you moved from, but Columbus would also be a nearby place w/tons to do. If you decide to stay in town, the Tropicana (in the Newport on the Levee complex) is my personal favorite of the Ruby restaurants. LOts of Louisville & some Columbus info in here if you do a search.

I like Tropicana (Newport) overall, but the place can get very smoky. Cincinnati and Louisville are smoke free cities. Though I'm a native, I also vote for an overnight here in Louisville. Stay at the new 21C Hotel...a true boutique hotel which houses a crazy art gallery. The restaurant, Proof on Main, is excellent. I eat no meat (some fish) and have had several good items there. The whole area around there is really nice. You can ride the downtown trolley all over the city. The riverfront is perfect for strolls (where Cincinnati has nothing like that, I don't believe)
If you prefer to stay close to the city, look at Christopher's Bed and Breakfast in Bellevue. Their loft room is incredible! I also love the Omni Netherland Plaza Hotel in downtown.

We tend to go the nature route on our day trips, but if you are more into cities, like SanParis said there is quite a bit of Lexington,Louisville and Columbus information here -- if you have trouble finding it let us know -- it can be hard to find sometimes.

If you have a few days, my choice would be to go to the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. Can be from 4 1/2 to 7 hours away depending on where you go. The only problem is that if you are going in October (especially on the weekend) it is pretty crowded down there. With reason -- it is beautiful with the changing colors.

Two of our favorite places to go that are closer are the Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge area in Kentucky (east of Lexington -- about 2+ hours from Cincinnati. We have gone down there for the day or you could combine it with a trip to Lexington) or Hocking Hills (about 3 hours from Cincinnati below Columbus). Both these areas are also crowded in October (again with good reason) and other than nature there is little to do in them. No shopping to speak of and little in the way of restaurants (although there are a couple in Hocking Hills I am told). In fact Hocking Hills can be a good anniversary destination -- there are cabins with hot tubs and you can have dinner or massages in your cabin. Here is the web site: http://www.hockinghills.com/

Snowrooster just wrote a trip report if you put her name in the search box.

People like to go to Nashville, Indiana. It is a very small little town filled with mostly craft type shops. It does have restaurants and small shows and is next to Brown County State Park. It is below Indianapolis -- again about 2 hours away. You can also do a weekend package at one of the casinos in Indiana. I know people who have enjoyed that even though they aren't into gambling. They have golf, massages, shows and restaurants.

We have explored almost all of the Hamilton County Parks over the last few years (mainly because we have a dog who likes to walk on wooded trails).

There are also scenic byway routes to drive along the Ohio River on Rt. 50.

I like to go in Barnes and Noble and the other large bookstores -- they have sections in the travel department on this area -- I saw one the other day with Ohio Daytrips because we are always looking for somewhere new to go. (DH is retired) Sorry this is so long.

I wouldn't go near Nashville Indiana on a weekend in October. It is a mad pack of tourists and loud motorcycles. It's not as bad Mon-Th, but you can't even get near the place on fall weekends.

Chiming in with a thumbs up for Hocking Hills. We were just there for our anniversary last month - our cabin was perfect for an anniversary trip (hot tube, pool table). It was through Buckeye Cabins - you'll find more info in my trip report.

Boca is my favorite restaurant in Cincinnati, but I find Pigall's a bit more subdued and romantic. Primavista is nice if you like Italian food and want a good view of the city.

Thx for the heads up on Pigall's SR, I walk right by it all the time when I'm in town on business & have never stopped in for dinner.

It's not a day trip, but if you end up staying close to home, I highly recommend Willis Graves B&B in nearby Burlington, KY for a romantic overnight. Both log cabin rooms and the Graves' Suite have two person air jet tubs, steam showers, luxurious bed and bath linens, and two of the suites have gas fireplaces. I'd recommend the log cabin rooms for an anniversary...very private and secluded from the main house. The downstairs log cabin suite has a small private deck on back too. And the breakfasts are amazing.

we used to go to celestial in mt. adams. has view, had live music certain times in bar.. pricey but excellent.

i also like jean robert's place ( pigall chef) in Oakley, ( near hyde park) which i believe is called Jean - Ro.

delcious food.

we had a very nice dinner at palomino on the square downtown cincy. nice view.. and good food.

people recommend primavista, but i have never been there. also nice view and good food.

after dinner , if i oakley go to aglemesis' for homemade ice cream. or hyde park to graeter's and walk around the square. lovely atmosphere.

there is a river view restaurant that i like,( ky side) but can't remember the name.

it is near joes crab shack.. and a woodsy place. it is upscale and nice decor, good food, fabulous happy hour.. (half priced appetizers in BAR ONLY).

enjoy.
