Christmas decorations in NYC

My husband and I are arriving in New York on January 6th, 2011 so unfortunately we will miss the Macy's window display which will be up through the 3rd. I read somewhere that when New Year's falls on a weekend, which it does this year, that some of the Christmas window dressings may not be taken down until the following weekend. Do you think we have a chance of seeing any of the other department store windows or other Christmas decorations? I did read that Le Parker Meridian's gingerbread display will be up until January 9 so at least we have that to look forward to! Thanks for any help you can give.

First of all, Macy's is one of the least of the window displays - Lord & Taylor, Saks, Bloomies, etc are all much better - and hte real cenerpiece is the tree/diplay at Rock Center and St Pat's. And I have never seen anything up beyond the 6th - and some things come down before - since the stores want to get the cruiswear in quickly.

I'm sorry - but I think you're coming a couple of days too late.

I fear you are arriving too late, but perhaps you'll find some ideas here: http://manhattan.about.com/od/newyor...idaylights.htm

Some stores start taking Christmas decorations down a couple of days after Christmas and the rest begin doing it right after New Years. Sorry, you won't find any evidence of Christmas by January 6.

Bryant Park holiday fair is open and the Grand Central one opens on Monday. Century 21 has their lights on. Some of the windows will be unveiled by the time you get there;. The snowflake is hanging but it hasn't been lit yet. And everyone is already complaining about too many holiday carols but I think Tom Lehrer has the final word on that:

You're in luck. Just searched - Lord & Taylor (the best, IMHO) will unveil its Christmas windows Monday, November 15th:

Thanks for your responses. I'm disappointed that we will miss all of the Christmas decorations but just being in New York at any time of year is enough to make me very happy!
