Chicago Fodorites - is everybody OK?
There was a news break about a derailed train, the CTA line that runs from O'Hare to downtown. They said close to 150 people were hospitalized.

Checking in to say my family is fine. My husband used to take that line but not until far later at night. Now he takes the train. As nearly as we can tell so far, no one we knew was on it at the time. I just can't imagine how frightening it must have been.

Thanks for the concern Faina. As of this am, only 3 people were in the hospital still-sounds like it was a very scary expirience but could have been alot worse, especially given what happened in India yesterday.

I usually take that train home believe it or not, but worked late and went out to dinner instead (whew) otherwise that might have been me crawling through the tunnel. When I got out of the resturant, I had 3 voicemails, all from my mother (who lives in the 'burbs) wanting to know if I was okay.
I got of the 'el' this morning at Clark and Lake (after having to wait for three packed trains go past and being late for work) and you could still smell the burnt rubber and smoke smell.
And yes, given what happened in India yesterday, I am grateful that nobody appears to have gotten seriously hurt

I have a niece who takes it, but she was with us yesterday at the Funeral so was away on the "right" day.
The pictures looked horrible at first, and I am so glad that the injuries were not as they were on that horrendous rear-ending train on train accident we had here in the late '90's. I knew two people who got killed on that one, young women who were going to be nurses. What a loss!
The people having soot faces and the scenes on tv were hard to see. I'm sure they breathed in that muck and have residue and aftereffects. I've been in bus accidents twice, but that must have been really scary in the tunnels.
