Motels, guest houses, tents, sleeping bags - all of the above.
Honestly, give us some clue as to what type of accommodations you are seeking, when you are going, what your budget is, what you expect, etc. Contributors on this forum are usually glad to assist but you have to give us some information about yourself.

Google Charleston hotels. The Mills House, French Quarter Inn, Charleston Place, Harborview Inn, Vendue Inn, Restoration on King all get good reviews. But since I have no idea what your budget requires and your personal needs I can't narrow it down. Beach? Historic District? Apartment? Hotel? Suite? What?

I'm also traveling to Charleston soon. In fact, there will be 6 of us -- all adults. We'd love to stay together in a house or condo situation in or near the historic district. The biggest problem is that we will be there Easter weekend. Everything looks pretty expensive with the upcharges for the holiday. Any suggestions?

Probably no way to avoid it. You have the Citadel and college of Charleston there PLUS April in Charleston--season probably doesn't get much higher than that!! You could look over in mt. Pleasant.
