Car rental return - Boston MA
We have booked a Hertz rental car for our trip to Cape Cod / Boston in May. Picking it up at the airport in Boston, but returning it to the downtown location which I believe is in Park Plaza. I have looked on Google map for the address, but can't obviously see a car rental lot so I assume it is in a garage. Can anyone tell me if this is an easy place to find - we don't want to find ourselves going around in circles, especially if I'm meant to be navigating! Any suggestions of the easiest route into Boston from the south would be gratefully recieved.
Also, is this an area where it will be easy to catch a taxi to our hotel? It will be mid-afternoon.
Many thanks in advance

I don't think Park Plaza is a particularly difficult area to find. The only route into town from the Cape is 93 (unless you go 495 to the Mass Pike, which is out of the way). It will be super easy to catch a cab, as the Park Plaza hotel is right there, so there are always cabs out front. The area generally has a lot of cabs around anyway.

Park Plaza itself is not difficult to find; but if I were you, I'd call the car rental company (the local office of the one in Park Plaza) to find out exactly WHERE you're supposed to return the car to. Since Park Plaza sits on a triangular plot, it can be reached from 3 different streets. You would want to know exactly WHICH street you're supposed to go on in order to enter the correct garage (or wherever you're supposed to drop off the car).
From the south, you will be taking I-93 north into the city. My guess is you'll be exiting near Chinatown and then make your way over to Park Plaza.

The car rental returns are in a 1920's parking garage that takes up the entire block between Stuart St and Columbus Avenue. You can see it on Google Maps, esp on the satellite view, where you can see actual cars on the roof. The satellite view actually shows the Hertz office, which is located on Park Plaza itself, right where Columbus Avenue ends.
Even more important than getting directions is confirming hours. Not all of these offices are open all the time.

Thanks so much for the replies. That should help a lot. We will be returning the car early afternoon so hopefully the traffic shouldnt be too bad. Can't wait to see what Cape Cod and Boston have to offer and looking forward to the seafood - Yum!

Just want to add: many streets in Boston are one-way; so you'd be MUCH better off if you use google map to map out the exact directions to get to the garage entrance. Of course, it'll be even better if you have a GPS unit in your rental car (either rent one that comes with a unit; or bring your own from home).
A lot of times while driving in Boston, while I can *see* the destination I need to get to, I CAN'T get there without going around and around due to the one-way streets.

Even though I am one who often states here that driving in Boston is not as horrible as feared, this trip to Park Plaza area garage can be one where you find yourself going round in circles. One way streets, entrances to major highways - pack some patience and get good directions, preferably from an up-to-date site. (Not me - I can wander around and find it, but that will not be helpful to you)

I went to Hertz.com and found this URL:
http://tinyurl.com/3sg4clm
which allowed me to go this map site (you'll have
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...SMA,02116-3928
You'll have to specify "Search Maps" and "Get a Map" to see a VERY detailed map of this place. Note also that it's "Park PLAZA" not "Park PLACE."
A trick I learned a long time ago is to check out a street on Google Earth before I drive on it, so that I know what to look for. Doing that, I can see that the Hertz offices, and the entrance for the parking area for Hertz (and Legal Sea Food) are quite prominently displayed, and at the intersection of 9 Park Square and Columbus Avenue.
